Summer Reading Program

Dear Parents,

HOW CAN I EARN UP TO 25 BONUS POINTS?

Students can earn a maximum of 25 bonus points added to their 1st nine weeks reading grade just by participating in any or all of the suggested activities. Please read carefully so you will know what to turn in by September 3, 2010 in order to receive your bonus points.

  1. East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library Summer Reading Program – (maximum points 5) – Turn in your completed reading log or a copy of your reading log to your classroom teacher by September 3, 2010.
  2.  Borders Double-Dog Dare – (maximum points 5) – Turn in a copy of your completed form with your parent/guardian signature to your classroom teacher by September 3, 2010.  JUST ADDED 5/27/10  You can substitute the Barnes & Noble free book activity.
  3.  Book Adventure – (5 points for every 500 points earned) – Sign up online at www.bookadventure.com , take quizzes on books from the Book Adventure book list, print out your report with the list of the books you took quizzes on and the number of points earned. Turn in your report to your classroom teacher.
  4. Scholastic Read for the World Record – (5 points for every 10 hours spent reading) – Use the reading log to record your time read. You do not have to sign up online in order to earn bonus points. Turn in your completed reading log with your parent/guardian signature to your classroom teacher.

You can earn a maximum of 25 bonus points by participating in any or all of the activities. Let’s say you signed up at the public library and turned in your completed log….that’s 5 points. If it took you 20 hours to read those books, record the minutes on the reading log and turn it in for an additional 10 points. Or, you can record the number of hours you spend reading and if you read for 50 hours, you’ve earned your 25 bonus points. Remember, you can participate in any combination of the activities listed above and earn up to 25 points.

In the gray side bar, you can find the forms you need.  Please email me at cblanchard@centralcss.org if you have any questions . I am not in the library every day during the summer, but I will make an effort to get back with you as soon as possible. Also, I have listed some websites that you may want to visit.

Give your child a head start for next school year, and have a great summer!

Happy reading!
